This recipe of slow cooker wings works perfectly with a greek yogurt dip or ranch. I added some carrots and celery to the dip to help with the heat as I used Carolina Reaper hot sauce for making mine.
How do you cook chicken wings in a crockpot?
The cooking part in a crockpot it’s pretty simple. As with any slow cooker, you just put the ingredients in and forget about them for some hours. For this recipe, I used 1 kg of chicken wings and 1 cup of BBQ sauce. Feel free to use whatever BBQ sauce you like more. I also added some Carolina Reaper sauce as I wanted my BBQ wings to be very hot.
The procedure here is pretty simple. place the chicken wings in the crockpot and add 1 cup of BBQ sauce and some hot sauce to taste. Close the lid and start the crockpot.
How long do chicken wings cook in crockpot?
If you are in a hurry, you can cook them on high for 2-3 hours. I cooked mine on high for 3 hours. If you want to forget about them you can also set the crockpot on Low for 5-6 hours. Very important, do not open the lid of the slow cooker once you started the cooking process.
How to finish crockpot wings?
After the crockpot cooking time had passed, I strongly recommend broiling your crockpot BBQ wings for 5 – 10 minutes. To do this, switch the oven to 200 Celsius and gently take out the wings from the crockpot and place them on a tray lined with baking paper. Brush the wings with BBQ sauce and place the tray in the oven near the top heating element. Broil for 5 minutes, then flip the wings and broil for another 5 minutes. During this process, the slow cooker wings will get a nice golden color and a crispy exterior.
What sauce to use with chicken wings?
We used a greek yogurt dip with chives. We also used celery and carrot sticks for the dip as it was helping a lot to remove the heat. You can also use ranch sauce or make your own greek yogurt and blue cheese dip.
How to plate chicken wings?
To plate, you have some easy options, depending on the event. You can use a bowl and place all the wings there. This works nicely for a game evening. In my case, I placed them on a plate with some fresh chives on top. As a side, I used the carrot and celery sticks and a small bowl for the dip sauce. Fresh or frozen chicken wings?
There is always a debate on fresh vs frozen. We recommend fresh as you can always see what you get. You can make sure that you have the correct proportion of drummies + wings when buying fresh. In the frozen bags is a matter of luck, but if you choose frozen chicken wings, no problem, we got you covered. You will have to defrost them before cooking in the slow cooker. This will reduce the amount of water that will accumulate in your slow cooker and it will also ensure that the wings will reach the safe cooking temperature in the proper time.

How to store: Wait until the chicken wings cooled down and place them in an airtight container. You can store it the fridge for the next 3 days.
How to reheat: You can reheat them in the microwave or in the oven. For the microwave solutions, just place them in a microwave-safe plate and heat them for 90 seconds. For the oven solution, place the wings on a tray or oven-proof dish and place it in the preheated oven (200 degrees C) for 10 minutes.
How to freeze: You can freeze the chicken wings after the cooking process was complete. Place them in a freezing bag or container and freeze them for a maximum of 3 months. Defreeze in the fridge before reheating them again.
How to cook big batches: This is the beauty of the slow cooker. You can add chicken wings up to the maximum sign on your slow cooker. You will have to adjust the BBQ sauce quantity, but it’s hard to go wrong there. Cook in the slow cooker for the same time and once it’s ready you will have to do some rounds in broiling them.
Side dishes: Best sides for BBQ chicken wings, especially for the hot one will be carrots and celery sticks together with a greek yogurt dip. Another favorite of ours is french fries and they will work just fine with a garlic sauce.

Ingredients
- Chicken wings - 1 kg (2,2 pounds) fresh or frozen
- BBQ sauce - 1 cup (230ml)
- Greek yoghurt - 1 cup
- Chives - 1 bunch
- Carrots and celery for sticks
Instructions
- Place the fresh chicken wings in the crockpot. If you use frozen ones, you will have to thaw the chicken wings first.
- Add the BBQ sauce (3/4 only) and mix it with the chicken wings.
- Close the lid of the slow cooker and set it on HIGH for 3 hours or on LOW for 5 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C (392 F). This will be needed for broiling the chicken wings.
- Gently take out the wings from the crockpot and place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
- Brush the wings with the remaining BBQ sauce and broil them in the oven for 5 minutes on each side.
- Place the greek yogurt in one or two small dip bowls. Mix it with chopped chives.
- Wash the veggies and cut them into sticks. Don't forget to peel the carrots before cutting them.
- Place the crockpot BBQ wings on a plate and sprinkle some fresh chopped chives on top.
- Serve with Greek yogurt dip and carrot - celery sticks.

Notes
As a side dish, you can also use french fries and garlic sauce.
