A blog about a passion - cooking passion
Lemons for tea are something great to have and they look so pretty on a small plate when you serve your guests with tea. If life gives you lemons, keep them.
We love having lemons always at home, but sometimes we don’t get to use our lemons before they go bad. And sometimes I really end up throwing away all the lemons, and we know lemons are not as cheap as potatoes, for example.
With this idea, you can have fresh lemons for a longer time and use them in tea or lemonade when you want to enjoy a lemony drink. Not to mention that when you have guests you can prepare a tasty lemonade in less than 2 minutes. What?!

If you have more lemons than you could use, you will need a storage recipe. And although you could freeze the juice in the form of ice cubes, in the winter you might search for alternatives. You could also dry them and use them as decoration, but if you want to keep them and use them in your recipes, thy our method.
This simple recipe reminds me of my childhood, when my grandmother always had a jar of sliced lemons in the fridge.
Let’s get to the recipe:
You only need two ingredients: lemons and sugar. And of course, a good jar with a lid to put the lemons and sugar in it.

Take the lemons and wash them very good.
Slice them and then mix them with sugar.

You can put one spoon of sugar in the jar, one slice of lemon, one spoon of sugar, one slice of lemon until you finish all of them. Or, you can mix them with sugar in a bowl and then add the mix to the jar.

Store the lemons slices with sugar in the fridge. Whenever you make a tea you can use a lemon slice and you will not need to use added sugar in your tea. Or, you can make a tasty lemonade very fast.

Depending on the type of lemon you have, you can store them with peal or without. If you can find them, buy organic lemons with edible peal, untreated with different chemicals. That way you can store them with the peel and you don’t have to struggle to remove the peel.
You can use them anytime you want, I opened the jar after about 3 weeks (I’m more of a coffee kind of girl) and they were super sweet and the lemon flavor was pleasant. Perfect for the 5 PM tea.
