This is an easy-to-make recipe for a bacon onion egg tart. You can get up to 8 pieces in one baking round and will take you only 20 minutes to prepare and cook. It works for breakfast but also as an appetizer when you have guests around.
We prepare this on a Sunday morning. We were thinking to have a quick breakfast to enjoy as much as possible the nice weather outdoors. Now, when winter is here and the days are short every minute of sun counts. We were having these puff pastry sheets at home, bought for an entirely different purpose. So, why not, let’s do something with it.

How to prepare a bacon onion egg tart
To prepare the egg bacon onion tart you have to take your puff pastry out of the fridge and let it stay for 5 minutes at room temperature so it will not break when you unfold it. After unfolding, you will have to cut the sheet into 6 to 8 pieces. I tried both and it depends on the occasion. I would suggest 8 pieces of tart if you use it as an appetizer, and 6 pieces for breakfast.

Once you cut it into the pieces, place baking paper on the baking tray and move the puff pasty sheets on it. Add mozzarella to each puff pastry piece. I use roughly 200g of mozzarella for making this bacon onion egg tarts. Once you add the mozzarella, you have to start building the basket for the egg. You start by turning the corners of your puff pastry inside and then you rise the margin. You do this for each side and then you can place in the middle, bacon, onion, and a raw egg.
It’s OK to do a variation of this tart. You can add mushrooms and skip the onion or the egg. It just depends on your taste. Once you are ready, place the baking tray into to preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes at 200 degrees C (392 F). It’s ready when the puff pastry got a nice golden color on it.

How to serve bacon onion egg tart
For breakfast, it’s best served when warm. Once you take it out from the oven, add salt and pepper on top and it’s ready to be served. If you plan to serve it as an appetizer and you want to prepare it in advance, it will also work great, so no worries.

How to store the bacon onion egg tart
If you want to prepare the bacon onion egg tart in advance, then maybe you are wondering how to store it and for how long. Look no further, the answer is here: The egg ones should be eaten as soon as you take them out of the oven. If you let them cool down for a long time, the egg will have a hard crust and will not be so enjoyable anymore. For the non-egg tarts, you can easily store them in the fridge for up to 3 days without any issues.
How to reheat the bacon tart
The tart can be easily reheated if you place it in the preheated oven for 2-3 minutes.

Easy Bacon Onion Egg Tart
This easy bacon onion egg tart can be done in roughly 20 minutes, and it works for breakfast or appetizers. You will just need a pack of puff pastry and some basic ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 package puff pastry
- 6 eggs
- 100g bacon cubes
- 1 onion (optional) - cut in slices
- 200g mozzarella
Instructions
- Unpack the puff pastry and cut it into 6 equal parts. Add the puff pastry pieces to a baking tray. I recommend using baking paper so the pastry will not stick to your tray.
- Take all the mozzarella and spread it equally on the 6 pieces.
- Pack the puff pastry pieces by bringing the corners inside and then raise the margin. In the end, each puff pastry piece should have raised margin around it and a center full of mozzarella.
- Add the bacon cubes, and the onion slices into the center of the puff pastry pieces.
- Add the egg on top of it. If made correctly, the egg should remain inside the puff pastry pieces due to the raised margins made at step 5.
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C (392 F)
- Add the tray to the preheated oven and bake it for 15 minutes or until the puff pastry has a nice golden color.
- Add salt and pepper on top and serve this Bacon egg tart for breakfast or as an appetizer.
Notes
When making this bacon egg tart, you can play with the ingredients. It's ok to keep out the onion if you like or not to have eggs on all the tarts. You can also add mushrooms to the mix. The tarts can also be smaller, and you can have 8 tarts from one puff pastry package. Even with the smaller bacon egg tarts, there is enough space to place the egg on top if the margins of the puff pastry are raised correctly.
